Art For Memories APP

Art for Memories is a heartfelt initiative launched in 2023 by a dedicated group of Rwandan artists led by King Ngabo, with the goal of preserving the memories of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. This project was born out of the need to offer Genocide survivors and families a meaningful way to and honor their loved ones through artistic expression and technology.

The Genocide against the Tutsi was one of the darkest chapters in modern history, leaving deep emotional scars for millions of Rwandans. Many families lost not only their loved ones but also the physical memories — photographs, letters, and documents — that connected them to those who perished. Understanding the emotional and historical significance of these lost mementos, King Ngabo and his fellow artists came together to develop a platform that would help survivors safeguard and share their stories visually.

Art for Memories enables s to photographs of victims and have them preserved in beautifully designed digital or printed frames. These frames serve not only as personal tributes but also as educational and commemorative tools for future generations. Families can add names, life stories, dates, and even personal reflections to accompany each photo. The goal is not just remembrance, but the celebration of life, identity, and resilience.

The app is more than just a digital archive — it is a community-driven storytelling platform. Survivors, families, friends, and even artists can contribute to each memory, creating a collective space for healing, reflection, and national unity. The platform also helps ensure that the memory of the genocide victims will endure beyond borders and generations.

Beyond remembrance, Art for Memories empowers artists to contribute to healing through visual storytelling. By collaborating with survivors, artists are able to capture emotions, dignity, and the human story behind each face. These artworks can be shared, printed, and even used in memorial exhibits across Rwanda and internationally.
